Design Principle (Inequality)

Image
Below is an artwork of snow white representing inequality.  there is a major contrast of characters where snow white is presented as a very soft and innocent girl while the queen is portrayed as a witch, which makes the two characters not equal.  also, based on the movie the Queen was equally pretty, but due to her greediness, she ended up not being pretty anymore.  The artwork was created by using markers and i edited a black background onto the artwork.

SENSE OF PLACE Below are the visual references that have inspired my own artwork.  Those are the landscapes which I have captured when I travelled to Guangzhou, China. I was very much intrigued by the details from those pictures, and I eventually decided  to make an artwork using watercolor for this particular project.  Below is the final artwork representing sense of place.

GCD60804 (DESIGN PRINCIPLES), Self Portrait

Using watercolor and paint in the gouache technique has always been one of my favorite ways to make art. To me it is a form of art which represents me as an artist, and it was very important for me to use such technique in my self portrait assignment. In addition, incorporating flowers were also important because I really like them because of their colorful nature. And as a viewer, what he/she will notice, is that I really like pink tones because I believe it brings a lively tone to artworks that an artist create  Also, for this particular artwork, I tried to use some of the design principles to make the artwork pleasing to look at. For example, the contrasting color of the headscarf compared to the background makes the painting have a sort of 3D effect. The flowers also create some harmony and balance.  EXERCISES 1. Contrast I wanted to show the contrast between colors mostly in this strawberry painting. The bright red color of the fruits does a visible contrast on the black paper I have used for this particular artwork.  Technique used: Gouache with watercolor + colored pencils   2. Movement The work below is an anime style artwork I have painted to show the movement that the character does by taking out his sword. The lightning shows the movement of the painting especially in the background where the character jumps and at the same time draws out his sword. 3. Word and Image Here is an artwork where word and image has been incorporated to show both a vision  and literal understanding of Mauritius Paradise Island.  4. Emphasis Below is a still life composition where the emphasis is on the cake which is on the table.  5. Repetition Here is a self portrait that i made where my face is repeated showing different face expressions
